WHAT IS FIRST PROTECT?

Without question, the number one concern for any parent is their child's safety and wellbeing. But we can't be there all the time to protect them.  And "to protect them" doesn't just mean keeping the bad guys away, it includes the daily challenges life throws their way.

As a young person, If they're not equipped with the right tools and strategies to not only overcome a challenge or a potential threat, then not only does it put them in harms way now, but can hinder their decision making ability and potential to thrive in the future.


This is where First Protect can help.

Delivered onsite in the school gym as well as outdoor spaces across two school periods, First Protect can be implemented as a year-level or whole-school multi-day rollout. No transport or excursion logistics are required.  We also also have an option for after-school sessions

if during school hours doesn't work for you.
 

First Protect is delivered by qualified self-defence instructors with extensive experience in child safety education and practical self-protection training. All instructors hold relevant Working With Children clearances and maintain professional standards aligned to school-based delivery requirements.

Key learnings for students include:

  • Increased emotional regulation under pressure

  • De-escalation techniques

  • Practical break-contact and safe exit strategies

  • Simple to learn and practical self-defence techniques

THE TIMELINE

Long before anything becomes physical, there is a timeline of events, small choices, behaviours, positioning, awareness, and communication, that shape the outcome. 

 

We teach students how to recognise and influence that timeline early, to prevent, avoid, and de-escalate situations wherever possible and only physically defend as a last resort.

 

Our focus is on breaking the incident chain before it escalates, empowering young people to control their environment through awareness, emotional regulation, and confident, informed decisions. Physical skills are the last layer. Clear thinking under pressure is the foundation.

PREVENT

Prevent the problem

before it starts. Use your brain before your body.

AVOID

Choose distance between you and a potential problem.

It's a strategic withdrawl, not a weakness but a smart move.

DE-ESCALATE

Use your voice and beahviour

to reduce a potential threat or conflict. It's emotional intelligence under pressure.

DEFEND

Only as a last resort do you need to phyically defend yourself. But if you do it must appropriate and proportional to the threat in front of you.
